Lakeside Isn't Just a Place We Work. It's a Place We Know.
There’s something different about Lakeside. It’s got that honest, no pretense energy that a lot of San Diego has lost over the years. You still see people wave from their driveways. Kids ride bikes down streets lined with old eucalyptus trees. And the smell after a summer rain out near the San Diego River? Nothing like it.
But here’s the thing about Lakeside that most people don’t talk about enough: the roads and driveways take a serious beating out here. The heat climbs fast in July and August. Hills are steep in Eucalyptus Hills and up toward Wildcat Canyon Road. And when the rain does come, drainage becomes a real problem fast. All of that is rough on asphalt. Really rough.
That’s why folks out here reach out to us. We’re Superior Asphalt of San Diego and we’ve been handling paving jobs across the area for years. If you’ve driven down Woodside Avenue or past Lindo Lake County Park and noticed a freshly paved driveway or smooth parking lot, there’s a decent chance that was us.
Asphalt has actually had a long and interesting history in American infrastructure, and you can read a bit about that here. The industry has come a long way since then, and so has what we expect from the guys who show up and do the work.
So Who Are We, Exactly?
We’re a family owned business. San Diego born and raised. Not a franchise. Not some out of town company that sends a crew that doesn’t know Lakeside from La Jolla. We’re local. And honestly, that matters more than people realize when you’re hiring someone to work on your property.
Curtis Anderson runs the operation and he’s built this company on something pretty simple: do the work right, treat people fairly, and don’t cut corners. That philosophy has carried us through a lot of jobs in a lot of neighborhoods across San Diego County.
What We Do
We handle all of it:
Asphalt Paving
New driveways, parking lots, private roads, you name it
Asphalt Repair and Patching
Cracks, potholes, surface damage from weather or wear
Sealcoating
Protection from the sun, heat, and seasonal rain that Lakeside gets
Road Construction
Bigger jobs, grading, full paving for larger properties
Concrete Work
Curbs, gutters, walkways, aprons
Excavating and Grading
Site prep done right before the first shovel of asphalt goes down
Parking Lot Striping
Clean lines and clear markings for commercial properties
Residential. Commercial. We don’t care how big or small the job is. If it involves pavement, we can help.
What We've Done Around Lakeside
We’ve worked on a lot of different kinds of jobs in this community. Steep residential driveways up in Eucalyptus Hills. Parking lots near Winter Gardens Boulevard that needed full resurfacing. Patch work and crack sealing on older lots near Mapleview Street after a rough wet season. A couple of big grading and paving jobs out near the El Monte Valley area too.
Every property is a little different. Lakeside lots especially, because of the terrain. We don’t show up with a one size fits all approach. We look at the actual site, talk through what’s going on, and give you an honest recommendation.
A Few Words from People We've Worked With
“I’d been putting off the driveway for two years because I didn’t know who to trust. These guys came out, explained everything without making me feel dumb, gave me a fair price, and knocked it out in a day. I wish I’d called sooner.” — Robert M., Eucalyptus Hills
“Our parking lot was embarrassing. Cracks everywhere, fading lines, the whole deal. They came out, assessed it and had it looking completely different within a few days. Our customers noticed right away.” Sandra L., Lakeside Business Owner
“They’re not the cheapest option but they’re worth it. The work held up through the whole winter. I’ve had cheaper guys come out before and redo patches that were already failing two months later. Not with these guys.” James T., Winter Gardens
Our crew is trained and takes safety seriously on every job. We’re fully licensed and insured. Every single time.
Our Service Area in and Around Lakeside
We come to you. No showroom, no front desk, no waiting around. We cover all of Lakeside and the neighborhoods surrounding it, including:
Winter Gardens, Eucalyptus Hills, Blossom Valley, El Monte Valley, Riverview and out toward Barona Valley too. We also regularly work near the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds, along Los Coches Road, and throughout the residential streets that branch off Wildcat Canyon Road.
If you want to see our Google Business profile and read through more real reviews from San Diego customers, you can check us out here. We’re proud of what people say about the work.
We know these streets. We know the access points that are tight. We know which neighborhoods have narrow lanes that make equipment logistics tricky. That local knowledge is something you don’t get from a crew that drove in from out of county.
A Few Things Worth Knowing if You're in Lakeside
This isn’t generic advice. This is stuff that actually matters for your neighborhood.
The heat is relentless in summer
Steep driveways need extra planning
A lot of lots in Eucalyptus Hills and the surrounding hillside neighborhoods have grades that most people in flatter parts of town never deal with. Drainage has to be factored into every job. If water doesn’t have somewhere to go, it will find its own path, usually through your asphalt.
Spring is the best time to pave, but we work year round
If you’ve got flexibility, late February through May is ideal out here. Temperatures are moderate and the ground is stable. That said, we schedule jobs all year long. We work around your timing.
Access can be tricky in residential areas
Some streets off Lakeshore Drive and up through the hills have tight turning points. We always do a site visit first so there are no surprises on job day. No equipment showing up that doesn’t fit the property.
Permits for bigger jobs
If your project touches public access or involves significant grading near a road, San Diego County may require permits. It’s not complicated but it’s worth knowing upfront. We can walk you through what’s needed.
We're Proud of How We Work
A lot of contractors will tell you they’re the best. We’d rather just show you.
We give you a free estimate with no pressure attached. We explain what we’re doing and why before any work starts. We use commercial grade asphalt materials on every job, residential included. We clean up when we’re done. And if something isn’t right, we make it right.
We’ve been doing this long enough to know that word of mouth is everything in a community like Lakeside. People talk. And we want them talking about us for the right reasons.
We’re a family owned business serving San Diego, CA and we genuinely take pride in that. This isn’t just a job to us. It’s a reputation we’ve built over years of showing up and doing the work the way it should be done.

Frequently Asked Questions About Asphalt in Lakeside
Do you handle jobs in tight or hard to reach areas of Lakeside?
Yes. We do site checks before every job specifically because of this. Narrow driveways, steep grades, limited street access near residential lanes, all of it. We come prepared.
How fast can you get out to Lakeside for a quote or to start work?
Usually within a day or two for an estimate. Smaller jobs can often start within the same week. Give us a call and we’ll tell you exactly what our schedule looks like.
Do you work near Lindo Lake or the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds area?
We do. We’ve worked throughout central Lakeside, including around those landmarks and along the main corridors connecting them.
What about same day or next day service?
For serious hazards like deep potholes in a driveway or a lot, we do our best to move fast. Call us and explain the situation and we’ll work with you on timing.
What kinds of asphalt projects do you take on in Lakeside?
Driveways, parking lots, private roads, patch repairs, full resurfacing, sealcoating. Residential and commercial. Big and small. If it’s pavement, we handle it.
How do you deal with hilly terrain and drainage issues common in this area?
We assess drainage as part of every job evaluation. If a lot has a grade, we plan for it. Getting water to move away from the pavement properly is just as important as the pavement itself.
What does 1 ton of asphalt cost?
Roughly $100 to $200 per ton depending on current material prices and your location. Most driveways require several tons so the total varies. We’ll give you a real number in your estimate.
How much does 1,000 square feet of asphalt run?
Somewhere between $3,000 and $7,000 typically, depending on thickness, site prep and current pricing. We price by the actual job so your quote will reflect what your specific property actually needs.
Is asphalt cheaper than concrete?
Usually yes, at least upfront. Asphalt also tends to be easier and less expensive to repair over time. Concrete can last longer in some conditions but costs more to install and patch. We can talk through both options if you’re weighing them.
How much does a 20×20 asphalt driveway cost?
A 400 square foot driveway is typically somewhere between $1,200 and $3,200 depending on base condition and prep work needed. We’ll give you an accurate number after we see the site.
What about a 100 foot driveway?
Depends on the width. A standard residential driveway at 100 feet usually comes in between $2,500 and $6,000. We’ll quote it exactly after a quick walkthrough.
